What a mundane chore! Just think. You could be writing; having fun! No, not today. A storm came through last week and our property had two downed trees and debris everywhere. Writing would have to wait.

As I carried the yard tongs and bucket across the east lawn, I thought about a comment someone made at a recent writer's conference. "Publishing a book must be so exciting," she said. "Don't you just love autograph parties and book signings."

I smiled as I wrote her name in Uncharted Waters, and a recurring thought grazed across my mind again. If only she knew.

Today I think I understand. Nothing pleases me more than creating the structure and plot for a novel. Characters become friends. We experience trials and triumphs together. Sometimes, when I return to a scene or chapter, it's like a class or family reunion. However, I'm never eager to edit. Grammar, spelling and typos all spell work and, quite frankly, about as exciting as picking up sticks. Did I choose the wrong profession? Not on your life because, once the sticks are cleared, you enjoy the landscape all the more!
